Reinhard Pass

Reinhard Pass (* 21st December 1955 in Lembeck ) is a German politician of the SPD . He was Lord Mayor of the City of Essen from 2009 to 2015 .

Life

Reinhard Pass was born in Lembeck in the Recklinghausen district in 1955 . He has lived in Essen since 1963. He attended the secondary school at Borbeck Castle and was subsequently a student at the technical college in Mülheim an der Ruhr . He then studied chemistry at the University of Essen and graduated as a qualified chemical engineer.

Since 1977 he has been working for DMT , where he was elected chairman of the works council in 2006. Pass is married and has two sons.

Political activity

Pass joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1983. At the beginning of the 1990s he held a political position in the Essen District Council II. Since 1994 he has been a member of the City Council of Essen, where he served as deputy parliamentary group leader from 1998 to 2003 and as parliamentary group leader from 2004. In the local elections in Essen in 2009 , he was elected Lord Mayor of Essen. In the mayoral election in 2015, he lost in the runoff election to his challenger Thomas Kufen (CDU), who took office on October 21, 2015.
