Heinrich Anton Rütger Klein (born October 5, 1775 in Düsseldorf , † February 24, 1853 in Brauweiler) was a German politician and mayor of Neviges , Eckamp , Essen , Mintard and Ratingen .

Live and act

Anton Klein was born the son of a tax auditor. After finishing school, he entered the tax administration and later took on the office of clerk. In 1813 Klein was first provisional and in 1816 final mayor of Hardenberg, today Neviges as a district of Velbert .

On May 19, 1818, Anton Klein was appointed mayor of Essen, succeeding Heinrich Arnold Huyssen . On May 27 of that year he officially took office against the granting of diets of one and a half thalers per day. After three years in office, he was replaced by the new mayor Johann Conrad Kopstadt in Essen in 1821 . In September 1821 he took over the office of mayor in Ratingen. The mayorships of Eckamp , Mintard and Ratingen, administered by him in personal union , had around 10,000 people, about twice as many inhabitants as the then city of Essen. Accordingly, he received a higher salary there.

In poor health, Anton Klein resigned from his posts at the age of 76 after around 57 years in the public service. In his death certificate, his name is given as Peter Anton Klein , contrary to the entry in the baptismal register .
