Eckamp was originally an old honnship in the Angermund office of the Duchy of Berg , which had developed around the Eckamp farm, which gave it its name. During the French era , Eckamp became the seat of a mayor's office of the same name . The rural community of Eckamp had existed in the Düsseldorf district as part of the Eckamp mayor since the 1840s . It was spatially closely intertwined with the city of Ratingen due to a complicated demarcation and enclosed it from the southwest, northwest and north. The municipality of Eckamp essentially included today's Ratingen-West , Tiefenbroich and Cromford districts as well as the Oberbusch forest area with the Stinkesberg .

The Cromford textile factory , which was founded towards the end of the 18th century, was located in Eckamp .

On May 15, 1930 Eckamp was incorporated into the city of Ratingen. The place name Eckamp has largely disappeared from common parlance today.
