Wolfgang Reiniger

Wolfgang Reiniger (born March 11, 1944 in Winterberg ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was Lord Mayor of the City of Essen from 1999 to 2009 . Wolfgang Reiniger was a leading member of Ruhr 2010 GmbH .

Educational career

Wolfgang Reiniger spent his youth in Essen-Borbeck . After attending the Catholic Dionysius elementary school from 1950 to 1954 and graduating from high school in Borbeck in 1963, he studied law and political science in Bonn from 1963 to 1968 . He received his doctorate in 1971 as Dr. jur. From 1974 to 1999 he worked as a lawyer and from 1984 to 1999 as a notary .

Wolfgang Reiniger is a Catholic, married and has two daughters.

Political career

From 1968 Reiniger was district chairman of the Junge Union Essen for three years. In 1972 he ran for the German Bundestag . Between 1975 and 1999 he was a member of the city ​​council of Essen and from 1975 to 1989 also the district representation in District IX in the CDU parliamentary group , which he had chaired the city council since 1994. In addition, Reiniger was district chairman of the CDU SME Association in Essen between 1982 and 1995.

From 1999 to 2009, Wolfgang Reiniger was mayor of the city with re-election in the 2004 local elections. Because of the change in the municipal regulations in North Rhine-Westphalia and the extension of the mayor's term of office to six years, he did not run again as a candidate for mayor. In 2009 he was replaced by Reinhard Pass (SPD).
