Arturo Pellerano Alfau
Arturo Joaquín Pellerano Alfau (* 1864 ; † February 18, 1935 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican businessman and journalist.
Pellerano founded the magazine Listín Diario Marítimo on August 1, 1889 . In this first information about the arrival and departure of ships in the port of Santo Domingo, reports about public figures who traveled to the USA or Europe or returned from there and the like were published. As Listín Diario , it became the most important newspaper in the Dominican Republic.
Endeavoring to maintain the independence of his magazine, he was imprisoned several times during the dictatorship of Ulises Heureaux . Between 1916 and 1924 he turned against the American occupation of the Dominican Republic. Then he was one of the supporters of President Horacio Vásquez , who was ousted by a coup in 1930. After his death, his son Arturo Pellerano Sardá took over the management of the Listín Diario .
