Corrado Augias (born January 26, 1935 in Rome , Italy ) is an Italian journalist , author and television presenter .

Life

Augias began as a young journalist for the Italian state broadcaster RAI . From 1969 he worked for the Italian daily La Repubblica as a foreign correspondent in Paris and New York , as well as for the weekly magazines L'Espresso and Panorama . For La Repubblica he is still responsible for the letters to the editor as editor. His daughter Natalia is a journalist for the RAI.

In the early 1980s Augias wrote several detective novels set at the beginning of the 20th century. A series of essays with the titles I segreti di followed. (You secrets of ..) in which he describes cities like Paris, London , New York etc. The last of these books was The Secrets of the Vatican in 2010 . His book on Jesus Christ Inchiesta su Gesù became a bestseller in Italy . Inchiesta su Maria followed in 2015 , which he wrote with Marco Vanini and Alessandro Parmiggiani.

Augias was the presenter of the television program Telefono giallo from 1987 to 1992 and of the morning program of the RAI Le storie - Diario italiano from 2003 to 2013 . He is also the author of three plays.

From 1994 to 1999, Augias was a member of the 4th European Parliament for the Partito Democratico della Sinistra , today's Democratici di Sinistra party .
