Ovada ( Piedmontese Ovà , Ligurian Oâ ) is a municipality with 11,219 (as of December 31, 2019) inhabitants in the Italian province of Alessandria (AL), Piedmont region .
The municipality consists of the districts Costa, Gnocchetto, Grillano and San Lorenzo. The neighboring municipalities are Belforte Monferrato , Cremolino , Molare , Rocca Grimalda , Rossiglione ( GE ), Silvano d'Orba , Tagliolo Monferrato and Trisobbio . The patron saint of the place is San Paolo della Croce.

In Ovada, Dolcetto vines are grown for Dolcetto d'Ovada , a red wine with DOC status. The berries of the Pinot Noir and / or Chardonnay grape varieties can be used to make Alta Langa sparkling wine . The Barbera variety is grown to produce the Barbera del Monferrato .
