Volpedo (in the local dialect Volped ) is an Italian commune with 1186 (as of December 31, 2019) inhabitants in the province of Alessandria (AL) in the Piedmont region and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy) .

The neighboring municipalities are: Casalnoceto , Godiasco ( PV ), Monleale , Montemarzino , Pozzol Groppo and Volpeglino .

Attractions

The place houses a Romanesque church from the 10th century (renovated in the 15th century). Inside there are frescoes from the school of the Basilio brothers (15th to the beginning of the 16th century), who were also responsible for decorating the cathedral in Milan .

On the outskirts of the village there is a small museum in the house of the painter Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo , who comes from the village. His monumental oil painting Il quarto Stato (The Fourth Estate) , exhibited in Milan and exhibited in Milan , was inspired by the life, impressions and socio-political concerns of Volpedo's farm workers at the end of the 19th century.

Sons and daughters of the church

In addition to Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo (1868–1907), the Salsian Don Bosco and mission bishop Felice Ambrogio Guerra Fezza (1866–1957) also came from this place. He was Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba.
