Arquata Scrivia ( Piedmontese Arquà , Ligurian Arquâ , in the local dialect Auquâ ) is an Italian municipality with 6367 (as of December 31, 2019) inhabitants in the province of Alessandria (AL) in the Piedmont region .
geography
The place is at an altitude of 248 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of 23.36 km² . The Scrivia River flows through the municipality .
The municipality consists of the districts Rigoroso, Varinella and Vocemola. The neighboring municipalities are Gavi , Grondona , Isola del Cantone ( GE ), Serravalle Scrivia and Vignole Borbera .
The patron saint of the place is Santa Maria Assunta.
history
On August 6, 1917, the express train from Genoa to Milan derailed at Arquata Scrivia station for unknown reasons . Three cars overturned, three more were smashed. 34 people died and 100 were injured.
