Villalvernia ( Piedmontese Vila Vèrnia ) is an Italian municipality with 896 (as of December 31, 2019) inhabitants in the province of Alessandria (AL), Piedmont region .

The neighboring municipalities are Carezzano , Cassano Spinola , Pozzolo Formigaro and Tortona .

geography

The place is located 30 km from Alessandria at an altitude of 193 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of ​​4.63 km² .

history

Probably founded during the 10th century under the name of Villa , the place was given to the princes of Tortona by Pope Hadrian IV . In 1413 the Alvernia family took control of the region for the following 167 years and left their family name in the name of the place.
