Mongiardino Ligure ( Piedmontese and Ligurian Mongiardin ) is an Italian municipality with 149 (as of December 31, 2019) inhabitants in the province of Alessandria (AL), Piedmont region .
The municipality consists of the districts Salata , Maggiolo , Vergagni , Rovello Inferiore , Montemanno , Gordena , Casalbusone , Guazzolo , Dova Superiore , Dova Inferiore , Correio , Gorreto , Cerendero , Canarie , Prato , Cavanna , Castellaro , Camere Nuove , Fubiano , Mandirola , Salata Mongiardino , Piansuolo , Borneto , Lago Cerreto and Lago Patrono . The latter is the seat of the municipal administration.
The neighboring municipalities are Cabella Ligure , Carrega Ligure , Isola del Cantone ( GE ), Roccaforte Ligure , Rocchetta Ligure and Vobbia ( GE ). The town's patron saint is San Giovanni Battista .
geography
The place is about 60 km from the provincial capital Alessandria at an altitude between 600 m and 750 m above sea level in the upper Val Sisola , a side valley of the Val Borbera . The municipality covers an area of 29.19 km².
history
In the village of Vergagni there was a castle of the Spinola family, built in the first half of the 14th century . Only the remains of a 50 m long wall and a cistern are left of this building.
