Tagliolo Monferrato ( Piedmontese Tajeu or Tajeo ) is a municipality with 1538 (as of December 31, 2019) inhabitants in the Italian province of Alessandria (AL), Piedmont region . The neighboring municipalities are Belforte Monferrato , Bosio , Casaleggio Boiro , Lerma , Ovada , Rossiglione and Silvano d'Orba .

The place is at an altitude of 315 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of 25.91 km² .
history
The name of the place comes from taliolus , maybe an area with intensive logging was here. The place was founded in 976 after a feud between Aleramici and Otto I. It then became the property of various feudal lords. In 1750 the fief went to the Pinelli Gentile family, who are still the current owners of the castle.

In Tagliolo Monferrato, Dolcetto vines are grown for Dolcetto d'Ovada , a red wine with DOC status. The berries of the Pinot Noir and / or Chardonnay grape varieties can be used to make Alta Langa sparkling wine . Barbera goes into the production of the Barbera del Monferrato .
