history

The
Bruzzo Castle

As found during excavations in the Serra del Monte area, the area was already populated during the Neolithic . The place was first mentioned in writing when it was given to the Genoese Spinola family as a fief by the Prince of Milan in 1375 . After Napoleone e Giovanni Antonio Spinola murdered his brother Battista and his three sons in the town's castle in 1478, the area became the property of Enrico Bigurra, Battista's brother-in-law. He sold the land to Cavalchino Guidobono in 1485 for 13,500 lire. From 1685 until the beginning of the 19th century the land belonged to the Ferrari family from San Sebastiano . It was not until 1928 that the area became an independent municipality.

The current castle of the place, the Castello Bruzzo , dates back to a building from the 17th century. It was renovated and expanded in a medieval style by Alfonso Bruzzo in 1936.
