Molino dei Torti ( Piedmontese Molèj dij Tòrt ) is an Italian municipality with 589 (as of December 31, 2019) inhabitants in the province of Alessandria (AL), Piedmont region .

geography

The place is about 25 km northeast of the provincial capital Alessandria and about 95 km east of the regional capital Turin in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in zone E, 2 546 GG. Molino dei Torti is at 76  m slm and together with Isola Sant'Antonio (also 76  m slm ) is the lowest place in Piedmont. The municipality covers an area of ​​2 km². The Scrivia River flows through the municipality .

The neighboring municipalities are Alzano Scrivia , Casei Gerola ( PV ), Castelnuovo Scrivia , Guazzora and Isola Sant'Antonio.

history

The place arose first as Rotta dei Torti on the right side of the Scrivia near the mouth of the Po as a district of Castelnuovo Scrivia and was known since the 5th century. The parish of San Michele existed since the 16th century and existed until 1887. In 1788 the place became an independent parish. After the severe flooding by the Po river in 1801 and 1887, the main town moved to Molino dei Torti (confirmed in 1443 by Bosco d' Este as subordinate of Castelnuovo Scrivia), at that time only a district of Rotta dei Torti.
