Radis is a district of the city of Kemberg in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
Radis is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Lutherstadt Wittenberg on the edge of the Dübener Heide nature park .
history
In 1378 Radis was first mentioned as Rodiss . A manor is attested as early as 1499; from him the later manor developed.
From 1952 to 1994 Radis belonged to the Graefenhainichen district (GDR district Halle , from 1990 the state of Saxony-Anhalt).
On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipality of Radis was incorporated into the city of Kemberg together with the municipalities of Dabrun , Eutzsch , Rackith , Rotta , Schleesen , Selbitz , Uthausen and Wartenburg . At the same time, the administrative community of Kemberg , to which Radis had belonged, was dissolved.
Culture and sights
Pope House
The Pabst is a piece of forest about two kilometers west of Radis. The Pabsthaus, located in this forest, is the birthplace of Johann Gottfried Galle . His discovery of the planet Neptune in 1846 made him one of the most important German astronomers . In honor of this scientist, the Radis Heimatverein has set up a circular hiking trail that leads from Radis to the house where he was born. Along this Johann-Gottfried-Galle-Wanderweg there is a planetary path with information boards about the planets of the solar system .
Economy, infrastructure and sport

Until 1990 there was a machine factory in Radis, which was part of the Torgau Agricultural Machinery Company (“LAMATOR”) and thus also of the Combine Progress Agricultural Machinery . Some of the facilities have since been demolished. The machine hall is now used as a warehouse for the local agricultural company.
traffic
The Federal Highway 100 , the Wittenberg and Hall (Saale) connects, runs right through the community. The station Radis is located at the Berlin-Halle railway . The S2 and S8 lines of the S-Bahn Central Germany connect Radis every hour with Wittenberg and Bitterfeld and alternately with Halle and Leipzig .
Sports
TuS 1947 Radis is a handball club that plays in the Saxony-Anhalt League in the 2017/2018 season. The club plays its home games in Lindenallee in Graefenhainichen.
