The Trojan War does not take place (French original title: La Guerre de Troie n'aura pas lieu ) is a play by the French playwright Jean Giraudoux . Alternative titles of translations from French are No War in Troy and The Trojan War Will Not Happen .

It was created in 1935 under the impression of the growing danger of war in Europe and denounces the willingness of the people, here the Trojan alias of the French, to go to war. The Trojan prince Paris was Helena , the wife of a Greek king who kidnapped. At the beginning of the plot, Hector, the eldest son of the King of Troy, has just returned from a war and the arrival of the Greek army (which symbolizes the newly growing German danger) is imminent. It allegedly wants to avenge the kidnapping of Helena, but in truth it wants to take the kingdom of Troy . Hector tries to persuade Helena to return to Greece. She refuses several times. Just as Helena agrees to return to Sparta, Hector knocks down the warmonger Demokos. This dying claims that the Greek Ajax was his murderer. The Trojans pounce on the alleged murderer, the incident that both sides wanted has occurred, and the war can begin.

Two film adaptations were made for television; one in 1964 in Germany directed by Franz Josef Wild , one in 1981 in France directed by Raymond Rouleau.
