The main work of Jesús Martínez de Bujanda is the compilation and management of the publication of the Index des livres interdits collection with the title of the Index Librorum Prohibitorum for different areas and times. The editorial board also included Peter G. Bietenholz from the University of Saskatchewan , Serge Lusignan and Claude Sutto from the Université de Montréal and John A. Tedeschi from the University of Wisconsin – Madison . Well-known scholars wrote historical introductions, the compilation of the volumes was carried out with the collaboration of members of the Center for Renaissance Studies, of which René Davignon, Ela Stanek and Marcella Richter in particular played a larger part.

Ten volumes of the collection were created between 1984 and 1996, these were completed in 2002 by a general register (volume 11). The Inquisición española (1551–1819) , published by Biblioteca de Autores Cristianos in 2016 , is sometimes viewed as Volume 12 of the collection.
