Ivica Šerfezi ( Cyrillic  Ивица Шерфези ; * December 1, 1935 in Zagreb , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † May 29, 2004 ibid., Croatia ) was a Yugoslav or Croatian pop singer who sang German-language hits produced in the GDR .

biography

Ivica Šerfezi studied at the Pedagogical University in Zagreb and was one of the best tennis players in Yugoslavia in the 1950s . Since the early 1960s he was one of the most popular pop singers in Yugoslavia. His stylistic spectrum ranged from beat to popular hits in the Oberkrainer style. From the beginning of the 1970s he also appeared in the GDR with German-language hits.

Many of his Yugoslav hits were composed by Nikica Kalogjera ; also Đorđe Novković wrote several hits for him. In addition, Šerfezi covered numerous western pieces such as “Things” (Ja za ljubav dosad nisam znao) by Bobby Darin and the “Schwarze Rose, Rosemarie” (Crna Rosemarie, composed by Werner Scharfenberger ), originally sung by Peter Kraus . He made joint recordings with the bands Crveni Koralji (Red Coral) and Pro Arte as well as with Zdenka Vučković . Later he sang Serbo-Croatian cover versions of "Mama Leone" (originally sung by Bino , composed by Drafi Deutscher ) and "Santa Maria" (by Oliver Onions , known in Germany in the version by Roland Kaiser ).

His greatest success in the GDR was "Sea blue eyes like the Adriatic" (1972), composed by Rudi Werion . Ralf Petersen composed for him "When the Sun Sinks by the Sea" (1985), "Wedding Day" (1986) and "You have my word" (1987). In the 1980s he sang duets with Ljupka Dimitrovska in both Serbo-Croatian and German . Some of the German-language songs are German versions of songs that were originally recorded in Serbo-Croatian.

At the beginning of the Croatian War, Ivica Šerfezi joined the Croatian Music Aid , the later Croatian Music Union . On January 16, 1992 he performed with Croatian musicians at the Moja Domovina (My Home) concert in the “Vatroslav Lisinski” concert hall on the occasion of Croatia's international recognition .

Ivica Šerfezi's grave in the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb .

Just a few days before his death, Ivica Šerfezi held his last concert in Dubrovnik and had already arranged his summer tour on the Adriatic coast as well as autumn concerts with Ljupka Dimitrovska in several German cities.

Ivica Šerfezi died of cancer at the age of 68. After his death he was buried in the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb .
