Siegfried Akkermann (born February 19, 1935 in Schaulen , Lithuania ) is a German scientist, doctor and writer.

Life

In 1939 the family moved to Lodsch ( Łódź in Polish ). Shortly before the end of the war in 1944, she was evacuated to Kühlungsborn in Mecklenburg . Here Siegfried Akkermann attended the Goethe High School. After graduating from high school in 1953, he studied medicine at the University of Rostock , which was completed with the state examination in 1958 and his doctorate in 1959. From 1959 to 1980 Akkermann worked at the University of Rostock, in 1969 he completed his habilitation. From 1975 he had a professorship for social hygiene . From 1974 to 1978 he was visiting professor at the Universities of Basra ( Iraq ) and Chapel Hill ( North Carolina ).

Akkermann was from 1981 to 1987, succeeding Werner Ludwig, President of the German Red Cross of the GDR and from 1981 to 1989 Vice-President of the Commission for Health and Social Services of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies . His successor as DRK President was Gerhard Rehwald . From 1987 to 1991 Akkermann was director of the Institute for Social Medicine at the University of Rostock and from 1990 to 1998 he held the office of vice-president of the DRK regional association Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . He has been an honorary member of the Presidium of the German Red Cross since 2004.

In 2005 he published his family and childhood memories under the title “Jenseits von Riga” at Godewind Verlag in Wismar .

  • 1970 Max von Pettenkofer Prize of the German Society for the whole of hygiene.
