Toni Impekoven

Anton Toni Impekoven (born June 21, 1881 in Cologne ; † May 6, 1947 in Sprendlingen ) was a German comedian , playwright and screenwriter and cabaret artist . From 1945 to 1947 he was the first post-war director of the Frankfurt theater .

Life

Impekoven began his theater career in Cologne and at Ernst von Wolzogen's famous Berlin “ Überbrettl ”. In 1904 he moved as a young comedian to the newly founded Berlin Lustspielhaus , where he also worked as a director and set designer. He was also active as an author of antics and pranks such as Narrenstreich (1909), The Green Nine (1911), Noble Flats (1913) and Everything works out (1914).

In 1914 Impekoven was engaged at the theater of the Frankfurt City Theater. Together with the journalist and playwright Carl Mathern he wrote other comedies, including a. The double Moritz (1926), Hamlet in Krähwinkel (1924), Otto der Treue (1924) and The silver spoons (1940). In 1935 he wrote - together with Paul Verhoeven - the libretto for the musical comedy Das kleine Hofkonzert by Edmund Nick . In July 1945 Impekoven was appointed artistic director of the Frankfurt theater and remained so until his death.

Toni Impekoven was the brother of the set designer Leo Impekoven and the actress Sabine Impekoven . He was married to Frieda Impekoven , geb. Kobler, with whom he had a daughter, the dancer Niddy Impekoven .
