Octobrists
The Octobrists ( Russian Октябристы / Oktjabristy) were members of the party Bund des 17. Oktober (Russian Союз 17 октября / Sojus 17 oktjabrja) in Russia .
The party existed until the end of 1917 and had emerged from the Russian Revolution of 1905; more precisely from the October Manifesto issued by Nicholas II on October 17, 1905 as a result of the St. Petersburg Bloody Sunday . The Octobrists advocated the idea of a constitutional monarchy with full legislative rights to the Duma , as provided for in the constitution proclaimed by the tsar .
In the 3rd Duma (1907–1912) they made up the second largest faction after the Black Hundreds , to which they were politically close. Because of their conservative policies, they were supported by the rural nobility and entrepreneurs . From 1915 they belonged to the Progressive Bloc of the opposition Duma parties and were represented in the Provisional Government after the February Revolution in 1917 . The party leadership was formed by the industrialist Alexander Gutschkow and the large landowner Mikhail Rodzyanko . Guchkov was Minister of War in the first Provisional Government .
