Alexander Ivanovich Guchkov
Alexander Guchkov , Russian Александр Иванович Гучков , (born October 14 . Jul / 26. October 1862 greg. In Moscow ; † 14. February 1936 in Paris ) was a Russian industrialist and politician. During the First World War , among other things, he was briefly war minister in charge of the organization of arms production.
Life
Guchkov came from a Moscow entrepreneurial family, but was not a nobleman. He graduated from Moscow University with a degree in history and humanities. He worked briefly as an assistant to Gustav von Schmoller .
In 1906 Gutschkow became Reichsrat, in 1907 a member of the State Duma , which he chaired in 1910 for a year. From 1906 he also published his own newspaper called Voice of Moscow . During the First World War he served the imperial government from 1915 as chairman of the central war industry committee. During the February Revolution of 1917 he was a member of the Provisional Government as Minister of War and the Navy for a few months . Guchkov had to resign in May 1917 due to resistance to the continuation of the war. During the Russian Civil War he emigrated first to Berlin, then to Paris, where he died in 1936.
