Bob Denver (born January 9, 1935 in New Rochelle , New York , † September 2, 2005 in Winston-Salem , North Carolina ) was an American actor .

life and career

Denver was born in New York but grew up in Brownwood ( Texas on). He studied at Loyola University in Los Angeles . After attending the Sylvia Herpolscheimer Academy for Performance Arts, he worked as a postman and then as a teacher at the Corpus Christi School in Pacific Palisades , where he taught sports and mathematics.

His television career began in 1959 with the successful television series The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis , in which he played the role of beatnik teenager Maynard G. Krebs until 1963 . His best-known role is that of mate Gilligan in the sitcom Gilligans Insel , which was produced from 1964 to 1967 and has seen countless repetitions on German television to this day.

Then Denver received leading roles in three other television series, which were less successful. The actor was married four times and had four children. With his last wife Dreama Perry, with whom he was married from 1979 until his death, he moved to West Virginia and worked there as a radio presenter. He retired from the Hollywood business, with a few exceptions such as a guest role in ALF . He died in September 2005 at the age of 70 from complications from cancer.
