Yizhak Sadai

Yizhak Sadai ( Hebrew יצחק סדאי; * May 13, 1935 in Sofia ; † February 26, 2019 ) was an Israeli composer and music teacher .

Career

Sadai immigrated to Israel in 1949. From 1951 to 1956 he studied composition with Alexander Uriah Boskovitch and Ödön Pártos at the Tel Aviv Conservatory. He then took private lessons with Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and Josef Tal and took part in the Darmstadt summer courses in 1962 and 1964 . In addition, he worked in the Groupe de recherches musicales in Paris with Pierre Schaeffer , François Bayle and Guy Reibel in the 1960s .

In 1960 he founded the Renanim Art School with Dan Miron , Jehoash Hirshberg and Zeev Schuss , where he taught music. In the same year he also began teaching at the Rubin Music Academy in Jerusalem. In 1966 he became professor of composition and music theory at Tel Aviv University.

Here he founded a studio for electroacoustic music in 1974, from which numerous composers such as Joseph Dorfman , Yossi Mar-Chaim , Raviv Gazit , Amnon Wolman , Betty Olivero , Danny Oppenheim , Jonathan Berger , Kiki Keren-Huss , Rajmil Fischman , Dan Yuhas , Dror Elimelech and Ron Kolton emerged .

In addition to electroacoustic music, Sadai also composed orchestral and vocal works as well as chamber music. He has written articles and essays on questions of music theory, phenomenology and reception in international specialist journals and has published several books.
