Betty Olivero
Betty Olivero (born May 16, 1954 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli composer.
Until 1978, Olivero studied piano with Ilona Vincze-Kraus and composition with Yizhak Sadai and Leon Schidlowsky at the Rubin Music Academy of Tel Aviv University . She also took composition lessons with André Hajdu and Abel Ehrlich . She received her Masters degree from Yale University , where she was a student of Jacob Druckman , Bernard Rands and Gilbert Amy . From 1983 to 1986 she studied with Luciano Berio in Italy. She received her doctorate in 2002 from Bar-Ilan University for a thesis on Berio's music and the composition of Hoshanot . Since 2003 she has been teaching composition at the Bar-Ilan University.
Oliverso composed symphonic works and chamber music, vocal works, stage works and a film music for the silent film Der Golem . In her compositions she combines elements of Sephardic and Arabic music as well as medieval music with a contemporary musical language. Among other things, she worked with the singer Esti Ofri-Kenan and the clarinetist Giora Feidman . Your compositions were u. a. performed by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra , the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra , the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Munich Philharmonic . She received the Fromm Award from the Fromm Music Foundation (1986), the Koussevitzky Award from the Koussevitzky Music Foundation (2000), the Israeli Prime Minister's Award ( 2001), the Rosenblum Award (Israel, 2003), the Landau Award (2004) and the ACUM Prize (2004).
