Dan Yuhas

Dan Yuhas (born August 16, 1947 in Hungary) is an Israeli composer.

Yuhas studied piano and composition with Mordecai Seter , Ödön Pártos and Alexander Uriah Boskovitch at the Rubin Music Academy in Tel Aviv and continued his education in Paris and London. His compositions were u. a. performed by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra , the Israel Chamber Orchestra , the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra , the Israel String Quartet, and the Arditti Quartet . In 1981 he represented Israel at the World Music Days of the International Society for New Music in Brussels.

In 1988 Yuhas received the first of three prizes from the ACUM composers' association (the others in 2001 and 2007), and the Israeli Prime Minister's composer prize in 1988 and 2009. He received the Lieberson Prize for orchestral composition in 1998. Yuhas is the founder and director of the Israel Contemporary Players and the Center for Electronic Music , president of the Israeli and vice-president of the Asian Composers' Association. He teaches composition and counterpoint at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University .
