Albert Ahn (born January 28, 1867 in Cologne , † July 8, 1935 in Lugano , Switzerland ) was a German publisher and entrepreneur .

Albert Ahn was a son of the publisher and printer's owner Albert Ahn senior. (1840–1910) and his wife Gertrud Ahn, b. Hesemann. In 1891 Albert Ahn junior married. and Henriette Esser, daughter of the Privy Councilor of Justice Robert Esser (1833–1920) from Cologne and his wife Adelheid Karoline Josefine Esser, b. von Kaufmann-Asser (1845-1919).

Life

Ahn attended elementary school and grammar school in Cologne and, after graduating from high school, studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . Since 1886 he belonged to the Corps Rhenania Heidelberg . At the University of Leipzig he did his doctorate. jur.

After completing his studies, Ahn joined his father's publishing house, which he later continued as Ahn & Simrock stage and music publishing house . As a publisher, he held numerous offices and functions in professional associations. He was u. a. Chairman of the Rheinischer Zeitungsverleger association , the Rhineland regional association in the employers' association for the German newspaper industry , in the district working group of the Rheinische Presse, on the administrative board of the pension fund of the Reichsarbeitsgemeinschaft der Deutsche Presse GmbH (Berlin), as well as a member of the board of the Association of German newspaper publishers (Berlin) and in Employers' Association for the German Newspaper Industry (Berlin).

When he resigned from the chairmanship of the Rheinischer Zeitungsverleger association in 1931, he was made an honorary member of the entire board in recognition of his services to the newspaper industry.

In addition to his publishing activities, he was also involved in other branches of the economy . As chairman, he was a member of the supervisory board of the stock corporation for the chemical industry (Gelsenkirchen-Schalke) and of Walther & Cie. AG (Cologne-Dellbrück). He was deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Adler-Brauerei AG (Cologne-Ehrenfeld), member of the supervisory board of Concordia Lebensversicherungs-Bank AG (Cologne), Hirschbrauerei AG (Cologne), Kölner Verlagsanstalt und Druckerei-AG (Cologne), Kölnische Rückversicherungsgesellschaft ( Cologne), Kurfürstenbad Godesberg AG (Bonn-Bad Godesberg), “Patria” Allgemeine Lebensversicherungs-AG (Budapest), Rheinische Wasserwerk-Gesellschaft (Cologne), Rheinisch-Westfälische “Revision” Treuhand AG (Cologne) and Westafrischen “Victoria” planting company (Berlin). In 1904 he participated in the founding of the rubber plantation Meanja AG , which operated plantations in Cameroon , and also became a member of the supervisory board here.

As a board member in the Association of Industrialists of the Cologne District and in the Association of Rheinischer Industrialists , he was also active in cross-industry association work.

In August 1933 Albert Ahn emigrated to Switzerland because of the political situation in the Third Reich and the Jewish origin of his wife and from then on lived in Lugano.

Albert Ahn was buried in the family grave at the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (MA, between lit.V + W).
