from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ahn & Simrock stage and music publishing is on stage works specialized publishing company based in Hamburg .

In 1895 Albert Ahn founded the publishing house of the same name in Brussels , which later had its headquarters in Cologne . From the beginning, his domain was, by definition, the "distribution of stage works and music". In particular, Ahn campaigned for the popularization of French operas and other musical works in Germany. The extraordinary success of Georges Bizet's Carmen can be largely attributed to Ahn's skill. With Samson and Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns , Ahn's initiative also made a significant contribution to the triumph of the plant. Because of his close relationships with authors and publishers in France, a lively collaboration began with them, which bore fruit well into the 20th century.

In 1914, for example, Ahn also negotiated contracts with Georges Feydeau for all of the works that Ahn & Simrock still sells today.

When Ahn died in 1911, his son of the same name took over the publisher and merged with the older music publisher Nikolaus Simrock as the stage publisher Ahn & Simrock, based in Bonn and Berlin.

In 1979 the UFA stage and music publishers acquired the company. In 1982, the publishing program was supplemented by the acquisition of the catalog from the Strassegg publishing house , as well as works such as the musical Irma la Douce and the following successful plays: Frederick Knott's On Call - Mord , Jules Romain's Knock ou le triomphe de la médecine and Robert Thomas' The Trap . Numerous plays, comedies and comedies by internationally known authors such as W. Somerset Maugham , Henry de Montherlant , Paul Osborn , Alfonso Paso , JB Priestley , Bernard Slade are also in the acting area at Ahn & Simrock.

The publishing house was bought in 1989 by Per H. Lauke, initially the publishing house was in Munich, 2001 he moved to Hamburg.
