Roque de Pedro

Roque de Pedro (born November 26, 1935 in Comodoro Rivadavia , † January 2, 2019 ) was an Argentine composer, music teacher, journalist and scholar.

biography

De Pedro studied piano and composition at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música Carlos López Buchardo and at the Escuela Nacional Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano . He was a member of various chamber music and experimental music groups, such as Alter Música , Movimiento Música Más , Tercer Retablo and most recently - as pianist and leader - of the group Antiquus de música de cámara de América .

From 1966 to 1985 he worked as a music critic for Clarín magazine . With Graciela Yentel and Norberto Chavarri he published the Historia visual de la música in 1969 . His book El jazz: historia y presencia was published in 1977, and Santos & herejes (2000) was created in collaboration with Nora Benítez . He has given courses at the Universidad del Salvador , the Escuela Técnica ORT , the Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel de Falla , the Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramático and the Universidad Nacional de Lanús and is Professor of Composition at the Instituto Universitario Nacional del Arte (IUNA).

De Pedro composed symphonic works and chamber music, works for solo instruments and vocal works. For his Concierto para piano y orquesta he received the price of the Fondo Nacional de las Artes , for the orchestral work Buenos Aires 96 the price of the Sociedad Argentina de Autores y Compositores (SADAIC), and the choral work Sueño was awarded a price by the Tribuna Nacional de Compositores excellent. In 1985 and 1995 he received prizes from the Fundación Konex .
