Alfredo del Águila Estrella (born January 3, 1935 in Mexico City , † July 26, 2018 ) was a Mexican football player who mostly played in midfield .

Life

During his active career, Del Águila played for Club Necaxa (at least in the 1955/56 season), Deportivo Toluca FC (at least between 1958 and 1962) and Club America , with whom he won the championship of the Mexican Primera División in 1965/66 won and with which he was presumably under contract for a period of seven years.

National team

Del Águila made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team on February 26, 1956 in a game against Costa Rica, which ended 1-1. He scored his first international goal on March 8 of the same year in a game against Brazil, which was lost 2-1. His last international match took place on May 28, 1967 against the Soviet Union (0-2).

The highlight of his international career was his participation in the 1962 World Cup , in which he played all three Mexican games and with his goal to 2-1 in the 29th minute of the last group game against Czechoslovakia paved the way for the historic first World Cup victory Mexicans at all leveled who could defeat the eventual runner-up 3-1.
