- October 10 : After the preview at the Colonial Theater in Boston on September 30, 1935, the opera Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin with Todd Duncan and Anne Wiggins Brown in the title roles has its Broadway premiere on October 10 at the Alvin Theater in New York . - Swing is becoming popular in the United States .
- January 5th : With the Rodgers and Hart composition " Blue Moon " the Casa Loma Orchestra achieved a number 1 hit; originally written for Jean Harlow in the musical Hollywood Revue .
- January 19 : Tommy Dorsey makes it into the top 20 with Fats Waller's " Honeysuckle Rose ".
- January 26th : Benny Goodman also hits the charts with “Blue Moon”; his version with singer Helen Ward comes to # 2 on the US charts. In the same week, Red Norvo is also represented in the charts (# 20) and a studio band around Claude Thornhill under the pseudonym Harry Rosenthal with "All Through the Night" (# 18).
- February 9th : The Casa Loma Orchestra has another number 1 hit with "When I Grow Too Old to Dream" by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein . Fats Waller reached # 17 with his own version of "Honeysuckle Rose".
- February 22nd : The Village Vanguard opens in New York's Greenwich Village , one of the most important jazz clubs from the 1950s .
- March 2nd : The Dorsey Brothers enter the top ten with “Night Wind”.
- March 16 : Benny Goodman hits the US charts with "Clouds" by Gus Kahn and Walter Donaldson ; The number was arranged by Fletcher Henderson .
- March 30th : The Mills Blue Rhythm Band hits the charts with the Ellington classic “ Solitude ” (# 8).
- April 6th : With “Lullaby of Broadway” the Dorsey Brothers have another number 1 hit; Harry Warren and Al Dubin's song on the film Golddiggers of 1935 stayed at the top for two weeks . On May 4th, Chick Bullock's version also just made it into the top 20.
- May 11th : With “Rhythm Is Our Business”, Jimmy Lunceford and his orchestra made it to the top of the US hit parades once, in which he stayed for a total of 16 weeks.
- May 25th : Lunceford hits the charts again with Duke Ellington's " Black and Tan Fantasy "; arranged by the number Sy Oliver .
- June 1st : The Mills Blue Rhythm Band (“Dancing Dags”, # 8) and Louis Prima (“I'm Living in a Great Big Way”, # 13) are successful in the US charts this week .
- June 8 : The Duke Ellington Orchestra comes in at # 6 with “Merry-Go-Round”; Ellington used two bassists on the track, Hayes Alvis and Billy Taylor .
- June 15 : With the later jazz standard " Body and Soul " Red Allen comes to # 17 in the charts.
- June 22nd : Bob Crosby , Fats Waller and the Casa Loma Orchestra are successful in the Hizparade, "Chasing Shadows" reached number 1 in the Dorsey Brothers version.
- June 29th : Bob Crosby tops the US charts with "In a Little Gypsy Tearoom". In the same week, Jimmy Lunceford is represented in the top ten with his version of the classic " Stardust "; Fats Waller comes with "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" at # 5.
- July 6th : The Duke Ellington Orchestra hits # 14 with “ In a Sentimental Mood ”; Glenn Miller's “Solo Hop”, on the other hand, manages # 7.
- July 20 : Adrian Rollini's second (and last) chart success was with “Weather Man”, with which he reached # 11. Wingy Manone and Carmen Mastren are his vocalists.
- July 27 : Red Norvo's version of "Honeysuckle Rose" makes it into the top ten; Bunny Berigan and Chu Berry are among the soloists.
- August 24th : Chick Webb made the Top 20 with Edgar Sampson's “ Don't Be That Way ”, a popular song among swing bands that was to popularize Benny Goodman in 1938 .
- August 30th : Fats Waller has a number 1 hit with "Truckin '" by Rube Bloom and Ted Koehler . The number from the Cotton Club Parade of 1935 stayed in the charts for 13 weeks. The pianist is also among the top 20 with the re- edition of the Tin Pan Alley classic "12th Street Rag".
- September 7th : One of the groundbreaking recordings of the swing era with a small cast was the trio recording of the later classic " Body and Soul " by Benny Goodman with Teddy Wilson (piano) and Gene Krupa (drums). Goodman ranks # 5 on the charts, where he'll stay for eight weeks.
- September 21 : Duke Ellington hits the charts at # 6 with "Accent On South" from the film of the same name starring Sylvia Sidney . It is also the first time that Ben Webster has appeared on a recording with the orchestra; However, the soloist is Johnny Hodges .
- October 11 : The broadcasting of jazz music is banned from all German radio stations by Reich broadcasting director Eugen Hadamovsky .
- October 12th : The Dorsey Brothers are featured in the charts twice; with Arthur Freed's numbers "You're My Lucky Star" and "I've Got a Feelin 'You're Foolin'", which are taken from the musical Broadway Melody of 1935 . - November 23 : Teddy Wilson and Billie Holiday achieved a chart success (# 6) with "Twenty-Four Hours a Day", a melody from the film Sweet Surrender (1935).
- December 7th : "Lady Day" is again successful in the charts with "If You Were Mine" by Johnny Mercer , known from the musical To Beat the Band (1935).
- December 14th : Fats Waller had another number 1 hit with “A Little Bit Independent”. Joe Venuti makes it into the top ten with “Stop, Look and Listen”.
- December 21 : With the dance song “The Music Goes Round and Round”, Tommy Dorsey managed to stay at the top of the charts for five weeks.
- December 28th : Teddy Wilson hits the charts at # 16 with the solo piano version of "On Treasure Island".
