Frans Lasson

Frans Lasson (birth name Frans Hjertholm ; born October 20, 1935 , † March 22, 2009 ) was a Danish opera singer and writer who was awarded both the Georg Brandes Prize and the Søren Gyldendal Prize for his books .

Life

Lasson was the son of film producer Poul Hjertholm, but later took the stage name of his mother's maiden name. After graduating from high school at the Metropolitan Conservatory , he studied literature at the University of Copenhagen between 1954 and 1958 , before completing an apprenticeship as an opera singer at the Copenhagen Opera Academy and the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music ( Det Kongelige Danske Conservatory of Music ), which he graduated in 1967 with an exam.

Afterwards he was an opera singer at Det Kongelige Teater from 1967 to 1990 and performed in roles such as Don Cassandro in La finta semplice by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Geronte de Ravoir in Manon Lescaut , Cesare Angelotti in Tosca and Uncle Bonze in Madama Butterfly von Giacomo Puccini and Pietro in Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi . During this time he was also a member of the board of directors of the Association of Opera Soloists of the Royal Theater between 1974 and 1977.

In addition to his work as an opera singer, he founded the Karen Blixen Society in 1975 and remained its chairman until 1985. He was also a board member of the Rungstedlund Fund, founded by Karen Blixen in 1958 and which maintains the Karen Blixen Museum in Rungsted Kyst . During this time he was also co-editor of Blixeniana , the yearbook of the Karen Blixen Society, between 1976 and 1985 .

Lasson not only wrote books about Karen Blixen, who was also a distant relative of his, but also about other personalities such as Paul Claudel , Sophus Claussen , Olaf Bull and Frank Jæger, as well as poetry .

In 1989 Lasson, who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Danebrog Order in 1988, received the Georg Brandes Prize for his two-volume biography on the Norwegian poet Olaf Bull entitled Olaf Bull. Brev fra en dikters liv . In 2000 he was also awarded the Søren Gyldendal Prize.
