Honoré Dutrey
Honore Dutrey (* 19th February 1894 in New Orleans , † 21st July 1935 in Chicago ) was an American jazz - trombonist of the New Orleans Jazz .
Live and act
Honoré Dutrey became known for playing in the band of King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, with whom he already appeared in New Orleans and in the 1920s in Chicago and participated in its classic recordings. While still in New Orleans, he also worked in the Excelsior Brass Band , which was directed by George Moret, and with Buddy Petit , Joe Robichaux and Jimmie Noone . In 1917 he did his military service in the Navy and then moved to Chicago. His playing contrasted with that of other New Orleans trombonists such as Kid Ory . After leaving Oliver in 1924, Dutrey briefly had his own formation, with which he performed in Lincoln Gardens . He also played with the other stars of the Chicago jazz scene, such as the bands of Carroll Dickerson , Johnny Dodds and Louis Armstrong Stompers , with whom he performed at the Sunset Cafe . Due to an accident during his time with the US Navy, he suffered from asthma throughout his life ; he therefore had to give up the music profession in 1930.
In the judgment of Leonard Feather , Dutrey is considered one of the leading trombonists of his time.
