- January 4th : World premiere of the operetta The Men Are Times So by Walter Kollo at the Schillertheater Berlin.
- January 20th : World premiere of George Gershwin's musical Pardon My English at the Majestic Theater in New York City.
- February 3 : World premiere of the opera Gevatterin Tod by Rudolf Karel at the State Theater in Brno (composed in 1932).
- May 3rd : Premiere of the French version and new version of the operetta Frasquita by Franz Lehár at the Opéra-Comique in Paris.
- May 20 : World premiere of Howard Hansen's opera Merry Mount in Ann Arbor
- May 24th : The first performance of the musical comedy Beauberdes Fräulein by Ralph Benatzky takes place at the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna. The model for this is the French Schwank La petite Chocolatière by Paul Gavaults .
- June 7th : At the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris , the ballet with song The Seven Deadly Sins by Bertolt Brecht (libretto), Kurt Weill (music) and George Balanchine (choreography) with Lotte Lenya and Tilly Losch in the leading roles.
- July 1st : Premiere of the opera Arabella by Richard Strauss at the Dresden State Opera.
- September 30 : The world premiere of the operetta Two Hearts in Three-Four Time by Robert Stolz takes place in Zurich. The libretto is by Paul Knepler , Ignaz Michael Welleminsky and Robert Gilbert . It is based on the script for the film of the same name from 1930 by Walter Reisch and Franz Schulz .
- October 21 : World premiere of George Gershwin's musical Let 'Em Eat Cake at the Imperial Theater in New York City.
- December 23 : The operetta Clivia by Nico Dostal based on the libretto by Charles Amberg is premiered at the Theater am Nollendorfplatz in Berlin . It is considered to be the composer's most successful work.
