Nexhmije Pagarusha ( Serbo-Croatian  Неџмије Пагаруша / Nedžmije Pagaruša , born May 7, 1933 in Paraguša near Mališevo ; † February 7, 2020 in Pristina , Kosovo ) was a Yugoslav singer and actress .

After her musical training in Belgrade , she was the most famous Albanian-speaking singer in Yugoslavia since the 1950s. She also worked as an actress on stage and for television productions. She ended her career in 1984.

Her best known song is Baresha (The Shepherdess), composed by her husband Rexhep Mulliqi and written by the writer Rifat Kukaj ; In the nearly six minute long song, a slow seventh rhythm alternates with a fast nine rhythm. In the 1960s she performed together with the Shota folklore ensemble abroad (including Germany , Austria , Israel and Bulgaria ). In 1973 she entered the Jugovizija (Yugoslav preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest ) with the song E vetmja dashuri (The Only Love) , in which, however, an Albanian-language title never prevailed.
