Thong Lan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thong Lan ( Thai พระบาท สมเด็จ พระเจ้า ทอง จันทร์ , alternative name: Thong Chan ; * 1371 ; † 1388 ) was the fourth king of the Siamese Empire of Ayutthaya in 1388 ( CS 750 ) . Other chronicles place his brief reign in 1382 ( CS 744 ).

Life

When King Borommaracha I died in Ayutthaya at the age of 81 , he had only one son who was a candidate for heir to the throne. His son Thong Lan succeeded him to the throne of the royal palace of Ayutthaya ( Wang Luang ) .

Ex-King Ramesuan , who was once king for a short time 18 years ago, but had been overthrown from the throne by Borommaracha I, had patiently waited in Lop Buri for the king to die. But now he secretly gathered his followers and stormed the palace of Ayuthhaya. The young prince, who, according to some chronicles, had ruled for just 18 days, was executed at Wat Khok Phraya, as was customary for members of the royal family: he was put in a velvet sack and beaten to death. Ramesuan then had himself crowned king again.

The chronicler Jeremias Van Vliet , VOC merchant who lived in Ayutthaya from 1633 to 1642, attributes Thong Lan only to a reign of seven days.
