from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Intharacha ( Thai : สมเด็จ พระอินทร์ ราชา , also Nakarintharathirat - สมเด็จ พระ น ค ริน ท รา ธิ ราช ; * 1359 ; † 1424 ) was the seventh king of the Siamese empire of Ayutthaya from 1409 ( CS 771) to 1424 ( CS 786) . Other chronicles call him Nakhon In ( สมเด็จ พระนคร อินทร์ ) and write his reign to the years from 1401 ( CS 763) to 1418 ( CS 780).

Lineage and Life

Prince Nakhon In was the son of King Borommaracha I. His older brother Thong Lan was king for a few days before he was murdered by Ramesuan . Nakhon In was installed as governor of Suphanburi by King Rama Rachathirat at a young age . He was endowed with so many rights that Nakhon took up diplomatic relations with China, which then regarded him as heir to the throne.

For unknown reasons, the king Rama Racha fell out with Chaophraya Maha Senabodi, his highest minister, so that he fled the capital to nearby Pathakhucham. Senabodi allied itself with Nakhon In and their combined forces were finally able to exile the king. Nakhon In was crowned king as Intharacha I. Senabodi married the daughter of a royal concubine . Nothing is known about the whereabouts of Ramaracha.

The chronicler Jeremias Van Vliet , VOC merchant who lived in Ayutthaya from 1633 to 1642, describes the king as follows:

“Nakhon In was a wise, prudent, and gracious king. He was liberal and cared for his soldiers, his subjects and the well-being of the country. He was a worldly prince, he didn't particularly like the clergy. After ruling for twenty years, he ended his life in peace. His reign was a fruitful, not a difficult one. "
