Phetracha ( Thai : สมเด็จ พระ เพท ราชา - Somdet Phra Phetracha , also: Bedraja , P'etraja , Petraja or Petratcha written; * 1632 in Ban Plu Luang, Suphan Buri province ; † 1703 in Ayutthaya ) was the 30th king of the Ayutthaya kingdom in Siam (now Thailand ) as the successor to Narai .

Life

Phetracha came to power as a usurper , thereby establishing the so-called "Ban Phlu Luang Dynasty". His dynasty ruled Ayutthaya for 79 long years, during which this burden would haunt the respective rulers.

To legitimize his seizure of power, he married the sister and daughter of the late Narai. Phetracha, a representative of the nationalist party of Siam, ruled the kingdom. He ordered the expulsion of the French as one of the first measures.

The trading branches were closed, the foreign traders were also expelled. Interestingly, the missionaries were allowed to stay and continue their generally unsuccessful attempts at conversion.

However, trade did not come to a standstill. On the contrary, it flourished with the Empire of China , India and the neighbors, so that there was hardly any decline in sales.
