from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prince Chai (full title: Somdet Chao Fa Chai, Thai : สมเด็จ เจ้าฟ้า ไชย , further name: Somdet Phrachao Sanphet VI. , Thai: สมเด็จ พระเจ้า สรร เพ ช ญ์ ที่ 6 ) († August 8, 1656 ) was from the 7th to the August 8, 1656 the 27th King of the Ayutthaya Kingdom in Siam (today Thailand ), successor to King Prasat Thong .

Life

Prince Chai was the eldest son of King Prasat Thong. After his death on August 7, 1656 “Prince Chai stormed the palace with armed men and ascended the throne”. On the same evening his brother, Prince Narai , gathered his followers. They arrested Prince Chai the next day and took him to the "Hill of Phraya". There he was executed as was customary for kings: he was put in a velvet sack so as not to spill royal blood on the floor. He was then beaten to death with clubs made of sandalwood.

Narai then had his uncle Phra Si Suthammaracha crowned king, he himself was also appointed Uparat ("viceroy").
