Mahin
Mahin ( Thai : พระ ม หิน ท ร์ , full name: Somdet Phra Mahintharathirat - Thai: สมเด็จ พระ ม หิน ท รา ธิ ราช ) was the 18th king of the Siamese kingdom of Ayutthaya from January 1569 to August 1569 ( CS 930-931) .
Life
When King Maha Chakkraphat died during a siege of the capital Ayutthaya by the army of the Burmese King Bayinnaung after a short but serious illness in late January 1569, his son Mahin was crowned king. At the coronation he was 27 years old. He was unable and not interested in defending the city against the Burmese ; he left that to his ministers. During the dry season, both sides initially contented themselves with shooting at each other. When the rainy season began, the Burmese tried to build dams over the rivers that surrounded the city. Historians agree that with proper guidance, Ayutthaya could have held out for another year. By betrayal, the city was finally captured on August 8, 1569. The chronicler Jeremias Van Vliet (a VOC merchant who lived in Ayutthaya from 1633 to 1642) later describes in his "Brief History of the Kings of Siam" how the king watched a cockfight while the Burmese stormed the palace.
King Bayinnaung installed Maha Thammaracha as the new vassal king. He took the 13-year-old son of the new king, Prince Naresuan , back to Hongsawadi (today's Pegu ) as a hostage . Mahin was also taken to Burma with other prisoners of war. He is said to have died on the way there.

Individual evidence
- ↑ CS 930–931 is written in the so-called chronicle of Luang Prasoet . Other chronicles ascribe a double reign to King Mahin, once from 914 to 916 ( AD 1552/1553 to 1555) and once from 917 to 918 (AD 1555/56 to 1556). Jeremias Van Vliet even writes of a reign of seven years.
