from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ramracha , Ramaracha or Ramrachathirat ( Thai : Somdet Phra Ramrachathirat สมเด็จ พระราม ราชาธิราช , also: Chao Phraya Ram - เจ้าพระยา ราม ) was the sixth king of the Siamese Empire of Ayutthaya from 1395 ( CS 757 ) to 1409 ( CS 771 ) . Other chronicles mention the years 1387 ( CS 749 ) to 1401 ( CS 763 ) as the reign .

Life

Ramracha's father, King Ramesuan , died of an unknown disease shortly after he founded Wat Phu Khao Thong . His son Rama, just 21 years old, was crowned king as Ramrachathirat (short: Ramracha).

He sent Prince Nakhon In, the younger brother of Thong Chan , who had been killed by his father Ramesuan seven years ago, as governor to Suphanburi . He endowed him with so many rights that Nakhon took up diplomatic relations with China, which then regarded him as heir to the throne.

For unknown reasons, the king fell out with Chaophraya Maha Senabodi, his highest minister, so that he fled the capital to nearby Pathakhucham. The Senabodi allied themselves with Nakhon In, their joint forces were finally able to exile the king. Nakhon In was crowned king as Intharacha I. The Senabodi married the daughter of a royal concubine . Nothing is known about the whereabouts of Ramracha.

The chronicler Jeremias Van Vliet , merchant of the Dutch East India Company , who lived in Ayutthaya from 1633 to 1642, describes the king as follows:

“King Ramesuan's son became king at the age of 21. He had little wisdom because he sent Thong Chan's brother to Suphanburi as governor . He gave him so much power that he killed him himself and made himself king. There is nothing more to be said about Ramrachathirat, since he only reigned for a short time and did nothing worth mentioning. "
