Hrvoje Banaj (* 1980 in Zagreb ) is a Croatian singer .

During his training at the linguistic grammar school in Zagreb, he also studied the organ at the Institute for Church Music of the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Zagreb . He graduated from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Zagreb with a degree in German and Phonetics as one of the best students. His diploma thesis (a research work that deals with the subject of the frequency of the so-called vibrato in the trained vocalists) is kept in the faculty library and represents the beginning of a future more extensive research. In phonetics he also acquired acting skills as part of several courses such as : Stage Language, Orthophony, Orthoepie and Expressive Phonetics.

He studied solo singing with several internationally recognized singing teachers: Mario Gjuranec, Hella Seitz-Ritt, Biljana Keserić-Košćal, Sotir Spasevski, Mira Vlahović and others. In 2001 he became a regular honorary member of the choir at the city theater "Komedija" in Zagreb, where he received excellent reviews in 2004 also made his solo debut in the media as Mary Sunshine in the musical Chicago (Ebb / Kander / Fosse).

This was followed by his debut on the opera scene of the national stage of the Croatian National Theater (Zagreb, 2005) in two roles in Wagner's Tristan and Isolde , in two vocal positions: tenor of the young sailor and baritone of the helmsman. He was also involved in this project as assistant director and translator .

In October 2006 he was hired as an actor in the musical Grease , where he played the role of the malicious teacher Miss Lynch.

He worked with many directors ( Jochen Zoerner-Erb , Kraft-Eike Wrede, Vlado Štefančić, Ozren Prohić, Dora Ruždjak-Podolski, Igor Barberić) and conductors (Mladen Tarbuk, Veseljko Barešić, Tomislav Uhlik, Josip Šego, Dinko Appelt). With theater performances and solo concerts as an organist and as a solo singer, he has made guest appearances almost all over Croatia and in Austria, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Montenegro.

He has a large vocal range (D - c2) and the ability to successfully create opera and song pieces as well as musical interpretations (the role of Mary Sunshine even calls for alto singing up to a2).

Language skills: fluent in spoken and written: German, English; advanced knowledge: Russian, basic knowledge: Italian.

Recently he also took part in the international project “Theater in German” in Osijek (Essegg), where he was hired to interpret a half-hour text on a sound recording.

He also made the recordings for the national exams as an interpreter of the German texts and wrote smaller compositions for electronic children's textbooks.
