Anita Carter

Anita Carter (born March 31, 1933 in Maces Springs , Virginia , † July 29, 1999 ) was an American country and folk singer.

Anita was the youngest daughter of Maybelle Carter . Together with her two sisters June and Helen, she took part in performances by the Carter Family as a child . After the original Carter Family broke up in 1943, Maybelle continued with her daughters under the name Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters . June, Helen and Anita later appeared alone as the Carter Family , often on the Johnny Cash Show .

In addition to her work with the Carter Family, she also pursued a solo career. As a duo partner of Hank Snow , she had some success in the 1950s. In 1968 she achieved a top ten hit with Waylon Jennings with I Got You . In 1998, a few months before her death, another recording of the Carter Family appeared on the soundtrack album for The Apostle , Waitin 'On The Far Side Banks Of Jordan .

Anita Carter died in July 1999 at the age of 66 after a long and serious illness.
