Marek Mietelski

Marek Mietelski (born February 27, 1933 in Krakow ) is a Polish pianist and music teacher.

He studied piano with Jan Hoffman at the State Music Academy in Cracow until 1962 and began teaching at the State Music College in 1960. As a scholarship holder from the French Foreign Ministry, he completed his training in 1972 with Claude Helffer in Paris, and in 1974 he took part in the Darmstadt summer courses .

He has performed as a soloist, concert pianist and chamber musician and played contemporary music with the Zespół MW 2 , of which he has been a member since it was founded in 1962. He participated in almost a hundred international festivals and played several dozen premieres of works by Polish and foreign composers. From 1977 he taught at the Kraków Music Academy, where he has headed the department for contemporary music interpretation since it was founded in 1990.

In the early 1950s, Mietelski was convicted of underground political work by a military court in Krakow. In 1992 he was rehabilitated and received the status of politically persecuted by the Instytut Pamięci Narodowej . In the following years he received numerous awards, including the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland , the Order of Zasłużony Działacz Kultury , the Order of Weteran Walk o Wolność i Niepodległość Ojczyzny and the Krzyż Niezłomnych .
