José Libertella
José Nicolás Libertella D'Arino (born July 9, 1933 in Cálvera , Province of Potenza , Italy ; † December 8, 2004 near Paris ), also called "Pepe Libertella", was an important Italian- Argentine bandoneon player , band leader , arranger and Composer .
Life
The Libertellas family emigrated to Argentina when he was a child . As a teenager he discovered his passion for tango and was already playing with various well-known tango musicians. Together with Luis Stazo , he founded the “ Sexteto Mayor ” on April 29, 1973 . It was to become the most important and successful tango orchestra in the world.
Libertella was also the musical director of the tango show Tango Pasión. The Tango Pasión ensemble toured with Libertella for over 10 years. The success of this tango group is mainly attributed to the music and arrangements of Libertellas and Stazo. He composed new tango music for the autumn tango festival in Paris . One of his most famous pieces is "Paris Otoñal".
Together with the Sexteto Mayor and several other tango groups, Libertella recorded over 20 records in the course of his life. His last recording was a double CD with the anthology of the last 30 years of the Sexteto Mayor. With this CD he left his own legacy.
Shortly before his death, on November 28, 2004, Libertella had one of his last appearances. Libertella died on December 8, 2004 of an aneurysm while touring France with his show "Tango Pasión".
