Luis Stazo

Luis Antonio Stazo (born June 21, 1930 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ; † March 21, 2016 in Berlin , Germany) was an Argentine bandoneon player , bandleader , arranger and composer .

Life

Born in Buenos Aires, he started playing bandoneon at the age of seven. At eleven he was already playing in the children's orchestra. Until the founding of the Sexteto Mayors in 1973, with whom he recorded over 20 albums, he played and accompanied greats such as Osmar Maderna, Angel Vargas, Juan Carlos Cobián, Jorge A. Fernández, Lucio Demare, Argentino Galván, Alberto Morán and not zu forgot Roberto Goyeneche ("el Polaco"), with whom he also recorded the album La máxima expresión del Tango .

As an arranger, he wrote over 150 arrangements for the sexteto alone. In his long career of over 60 years he played on all stages of the world. Awards such as the Konex, Grand Premio de Sadayc (Association of Authors and Composers from Argentina) or the Grammy Latino in 2003 are just a few of the awards. Among his over 100 compositions are pieces such as No nos veremos mas, Orgullo Tanguero and A Don Julio de Caro. Some of his compositions were written together with Ernesto Baffa, Enrique Cadícamo, Julio de Caro and Federico Silva.

For the last 20 years he has accompanied the Broadway productions "Tango Argentino" and "Tango Pasión" together with the Sexteto Mayor.

After the death of the musician, composer and arranger Pepe Libertella , Stazo said goodbye to his sextet at the end of 2004 and founded the tango trio "Stazomayor" in Berlin in the new year. Since then he has been a popular guest musician and arranger in tango orchestras and symphony orchestras. So he took with the Berlin group "Quinteto Ángel" u. a. 2008 the song Tango by the young singer Leandra Gamine in a classic Tango-Argentino version. At the end of 2008 he expanded the trio and founded the Sexteto StazoMayor.

Until the end he lived in Berlin with his wife Manuela.
