Józef Stompel

Józef Stompel (born July 4, 1933 in Świętochłowice ) is a Polish pianist and music teacher .

Stompel completed piano studies with Wanda Chmielowska at the State Music Academy in Katowice , which he completed with honors in 1950, and continued his training with Bruno Seidlhofer in Salzburg. He won prizes at the national Mozart piano competition in Katowice (1956) and the international George Enescu competition in Bucharest (1958) and was awarded an honorable mention at the 1960 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.

From 1966 Stompel taught at the State Music Academy in Katowice, where he was vice dean from 1976 to 1979 and dean of the faculty for instrumental music from 1979 to 1984. He has given master classes in Poland and abroad and has acted as a juror in piano competitions. From 1994 to 1996 he taught at Kobe College in Japan. From 1996 to 2002 he headed the piano department at the University of Katowice . His students include a. Piotr Kupka , Wojciech Świtała , Szczepan Kończal , Grzegorz Niemczuk and Teresa Baczewska .

Since 1958, Stompel has performed as a concert pianist in Poland and internationally. He participated in many festivals and worked with conductors such as John Krenz , Kazimierz Kord , Witold Rowicki , Charles Stryja , Stanisław Wisłocki , Christopher Misson , George Salwarowski , Jerzy Swoboda , Ciprian Constantinescu , Ruslan Rajczew and Thomas Sanderling . He gave world premieres of piano works by Polish composers such as Bolesław Szabelski , Józef Talarczyk , Jerzy Gablenz , Zygmunt Stojowski , Witold Friemann , Romuald Twardowski , Krzysztof Baculewski , Edward Bogusławski , Jan Wincenty Hawel, and Józef Śgmolesojenowski from Zygmoles Stojowski , Józef Talarczyk, Domenico Scarlatti , Fryderyk Chopin , Karol Szymanowski , Grażyna Bacewicz and Arnold Schönberg . On record he played a. a. Compositions by Władysław Żeleński .
