Lea Foli

Lea Foli (born September 8, 1933 in Kelowna ) is a Canadian violinist and music teacher.

Foli studied violin with William Gratch , Gregori Garbovitsky , Clifford Evens , Esther Glazer , Oscar Shumsky and Ivan Galamian . He was a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the CBC Vancouver Chamber Orchestra from 1954 to 1960 and concertmaster of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra from 1960 to 1966 . In 1959 he founded the Corydon Trio (with Gerald Stanick and Claude Kenneson , later Peggy Sampson ), with whom he took part in the Stratford Festival annually until 1962 .

From 1969 to 1988 he was concertmaster of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra , with which he performed works by Béla Bartók , Alban Berg , Paul Hindemith and William Schuman , among others . He has also performed as a soloist with the National Arts Center Orchestra , the Toronto Symphony Orchestra , the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra .

From 1966 to 1976 he participated as a musician and teacher at the Aspen Festival . He has also taught at the Courtenay Youth Music Center , the Banff Center for the Arts , George Brown College in Toronto, and the Interlochen Center for the Arts and was Professor of Violin at the University of Minnesota , where he was a founding member of the University of Minnesota String Quartet belonged.
