- February 24 : The opera Lucrezia by Ottorino Respighi has its world premiere in Milan after his death and after its completion by his wife .
- March 2 : The opera Massimilla Doni by Othmar Schoeck based on the novel of the same name by Honoré de Balzac is premiered at the State Opera in Dresden.
- March 10 : The world premiere of the musical drama L'Aiglon by Arthur Honegger takes place in Monte Carlo.
- March 20 : The ballet Die Kirmes von Delft by Sonja Korty (choreography and libretto) based on music by Hermann Reutter is premiered in Baden-Baden as part of the music festival of the International Society for New Music .
- March 25th : The "musical football swank " Roxy and her wonder team by Paul Abraham is premiered in the presence of the Austrian national football team at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.
- April 1st : Amelia Goes to the Ball , a grotesque opera by Gian Carlo Menotti , premieres at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia.
- June 2 : The unfinished opera Lulu by the Austrian composer Alban Berg premiered posthumously at the Zurich Opera House . The literary models for the work are the two tragedies Erdgeist and The Pandora's Box by Frank Wedekind , the wording of which the composer has left almost unchanged. The work also celebrates a success as a fragment.
- June 8th : The scenic cantata Carmina Burana by Carl Orff is successfully premiered at the Opera in Frankfurt am Main . The Middle Latin and Middle High German texts come from the medieval song and drama texts of the same name .
- June 24th : The opera Don Juan de Mañara by Eugène Aynsley Goossens is premiered at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London.
- September 3 : The operetta Hofball in Schönbrunn by August Pepöck with the libretto by Josef Wenter is premiered in Vienna .
- September 27 : The premiere of the Mask in Blue by Fred Raymond with the text by Günther Schwenn takes place in the Metropol-Theater in Berlin . The operetta is a long-term success, and several numbers from it become evergreens .
- October 3 : The world premiere of the operetta Monika by Nico Dostal on a libretto by Hermann Hermecke takes place in Stuttgart.
- November 24th : The world premiere of the opera Tobias Wunderlich by Joseph Haas takes place in Kassel . The libretto wrote Ludwig Strecker the Younger under the pseudonym Louis Andersen . A text by the Austrian writer Hermann Heinz Ortner served as a template .
- December 22 : At the Central Theater in Leipzig operetta Balkan love of Rudolf Kattnigg premiered.
- December 23 : The world premiere of the operetta Julia by Paul Abraham takes place in Budapest.

- Count Basie writes the swing number One O'Clock Jump in a 12-bar blues rhythm, which is attributed to Kansas City jazz .
- January 2nd : Teddy Wilson and Billie Holiday hit position 3 on the US charts with their version of " Pennies from Heaven ".
- January 16 : Benny Goodman has his seventh number 1 hit with "Goodnight My Love" by Mack Gordon and Harry Revel . Goodman's band singer here is Ella Fitzgerald . The fans can only buy the record for a short time because Decca Records has stopped the sale of the Victor records for contractual reasons - Ella is under contract with Chick Webb at Decca.
- January 30th : Benny Goodman storms the charts again with the Irving Berlin song "This Year's Kisses" from the film On the Avenue . Also Hal Kemp , Shep Fields and Teddy Wilson / Billie Holiday come with the song this year in the hit parade.
- March 27th : The Quintette du Hot Club de France with Django Reinhardt makes it into the American charts (once) with “ After You've Gone ”. In November, Lionel Hampton hit the Billboard charts with the ballad .
- April 24th . Teddy Wilson's only number 1 hit was with Billie Holiday . Her song "Carelessly", recorded for Brunswick , stayed at number one for three weeks. Cootie Williams , Harry Carney and Johnny Hodges are the soloists.
- May 8 : Experimenter Raymond Scott hits the US charts with “The Toy Trumpet” and reaches # 17. The instrumental title is popularized by Shirley Temple's version from the film Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm .
- July 3rd : The Duke Ellington Orchestra made it to # 4 in the charts with “ Caravan ” and stayed in the charts for 18 weeks. It was not until 1949 that Juan Tizol's composition returned to the charts in the version by Billy Eckstine .
- July 6 : Benny Goodman covers the Louis Prima composition Sing, Sing, Sing .
- July 10 : Fats Waller has his fifth number 1 hit with "(You Know It All) Smarty" by Alan Freed and Burton Lane . It's just popularized with Bing Crosby's version of the musical, Double Or Nothing .
- July 30th : Benny Goodman records the Gershwin standard " The Man I Love " for Victor Records in a quartet with Lionel Hampton , Teddy Wilson and Gene Krupa ; with the later jazz standard it only reached # 20 on the US charts.
- August 7th : Bob Crosby & His Orchestra stay at number 1 in the US charts for four weeks with “Whispers in the Dark”. The song is best known for Connee Boswell's version from the film musical Artists and Models , where it is accompanied by Andrém Kostelanetz 'orchestra.
- September 4th : Tommy Dorsey's “The Big Apple” comes in at number 1; its popularity is based on the fashion dance of the same name.
- October 2nd : Bunny Berigan and his orchestra hit # 5 on the US charts with "Ebb Tide", a number by Ralph Rainger and Leo Robin from the James P. Hogan film of the same name . That same week Teddy Wilson had his last number 1 hit with the instrumental title "You Can't Stop Me from Dreaming".
- October 9th : Louis Armstrong reaches the top twenty with his version of " Alexander's Ragtime Band ". The Irving Berlin number from 1911 reaches # 12.
- October 23 : Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra manage to land a number 1 hit in the USA for the eighth time; "Once In a While". In 1937 Horace Heidt also made it onto the charts. Teddy Wilson made it into the American top ten that same week with Fats Waller's evergreen " Ain't Misbehavin ' " .
- November 13th : Larry Clinton writes the number "The Dispey Doodle" for Tommy Dorsey , inspired by the baseball pitcher Carl Hubbell , whom he admires.

- The Kalkberg Stadium , an open-air stage in the center of Bad Segeberg based on plans by the architect Fritz Schaller , who took up plans by the garden and landscape designer Wilhelm Heintz from 1927, will be completed by the National Socialist Reich Labor Service after three years of construction . The stadium was named Feierstätte der Nordmark and was officially opened in the same year by Joseph Goebbels and with the performance of the play The Battle of the White Ships by Henrik Herse . It is one of many thing places that are set up for the thing game or the thing movement .
