Lussine Sakarjan ( Armenian Լուսինե Զաքարյան , Russian Лусинэ Закарян , maiden name: Светлана Абетовна Закарян , * 1. June 1937 in Achaltsiche , Georgian SSR ; † thirtieth December 1992 in Yerevan ) was a Soviet - Armenian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Lussine Sakarjan spent her childhood in the southern Georgian province of Samtskhe-Javakheti . In 1952 she moved with her family to Yerevan , Armenia , where she received her first musical training. In 1957 she entered the Yerevan Conservatory; her talent for singing was quickly noticed.

Between 1970 and 1983 Sakarjan was a soloist with the symphony orchestra of Armenian radio and television. She was also a member of the choir at the seat of the Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church , the Echmiadzin Cathedral .

In addition to operatic roles, Sakarjan's repertoire included Armenian folk music and religious songs. She contributed to the rebirth of the spiritual chants of the Armenian Church. Their interpretations spanned an arc from traditional folk art to spiritual liturgy.

Lussine Sakarjan made special efforts to revive the works of Komitas Vardapet and Makar Jekmaljan

Health problems put an early end to her artistic career. After a series of illnesses, she died on December 30, 1992. She was buried in the cemetery of the St. Gajane Church in Etchmiadzin.
